4 Reasons You Should Be Doing Your Own Graphic Design with Canva

4 reasons you should be doing your own graphic design in canva

Design is a part of everything we do in digital marketing, my friends. From social media graphics to email headers to advertising, it’s essential to have stunning imagery. And even when marketing offline, you could business cards or flyers, and everything in between! Graphic design can be quite an expense for a new business. While there are always things you should do to a designer for, you can accomplish a great deal on your own—if you have the right tool.

And Canva is the right tool for all your graphic design needs.

You don’t need to learn any design software

Reason #1 to use Canva for graphic design: you don’t need to learn any robust or advanced softwares. For years, programs like Photoshop or Adobe’s InDesign were graphic design staples; if you couldn’t navigate your way through their effective—yet complex—functionalities, you were shit out of luck.

But not anymore.

Canva is a simple-to-use drag and drop solution that allows you to upload any imagery you’d like, move it around, throw filters on it, crop it, reshape it, and more. With or without images, Canva gives you all sorts of elements to play around with like shapes, lines, icons, and fonts. Change things like colors and transparency all via simple buttons on the dashboard.

This is so key for startup founders! The more you can manage in house, the better.

You have all the dimensions you’ll ever need

If you’ve ever tried to create a custom graphic for a social media post, you’ve had the experience of going to Google and conducting a search for the “Instagram post dimensions” or “Facebook ad dimensions”. Then you’d have to figure out how to make a canvas that size in whatever program you were attempting to use.

Canva makes this oh, oh so simple.

Before you even start designing, you’ve got to choose your blank slate. Canva gets you started with a myriad of options from social posts to flyers—and everything is optimally sized for its platform or function.

You can get started with beautiful templates

Starting out with a blank slate can be incredibly overwhelming if you’re not a designer yourself. Canva takes this worry off your plate too! For whichever kind of design you choose, there are tons of free template options that you can use as the starting point for your design.

Keep what you like, ditch what you don’t. Update the colors to be on-brand, and voila! Graphic design made beautiful and easy.

You can use it for free or for cheap

Here’s the best part: Canva is something you totally can afford. The software itself is free, and you can probably get by forever with just the free version. Pricing after that is simple: if you want to use any of Canva’s premium photos or design elements, it’s $1 per element. Canva for work is only $12.95 a month per user. Chances are you don’t need it, but I find it more than worth the price to have my branding palettes already loaded into the system (so I’m not constantly hunting for hex codes) and the ability to use all my own custom fonts.

If you’re not already using Canva, you should be. It’s easy, it’s affordable, and it puts daily graphic design functions back in house so you can put your marketing budget toward the areas that you truly need help in.
