How Planners Can Improve Your Productivity
I am a big believer in the power of having a planner. It’s a great way to keep track of all of your “to-dos” and stay organized throughout your week. Planners are also a great place to make lists, jot-down creative ideas, and keep track of important items like tickets, coupons, and more.
Nowadays, there are so many incredible planners to choose from. Depending on how you like your planner organized, choose one that speaks to you, inspires creativity, and makes sense for your brain. There are planners with fancy layouts, inspirational quotes, reminders to be grateful, and so much more!
Probably one of my favorite things about having a great planner on hand is how much it can improve your productivity. I strongly believe that I would get half as much done each day if I didn’t have my planner. So, let’s talk about how we can best use our planners to maximize productivity and inspire creativity.
The Day Before…
Many creative minds stay awake hours into the night thinking and planning for the coming day. Raise your hand if you’re one of them! I know I am. But sleep is incredibly important…especially when it comes to productivity. So, this quick and easy tip will really help you clear your head and get a good vision for the next day. This way, you can drift off peacefully as soon as your head hits the pillow!
Make it a ritual to plan your next day before you go to sleep. It doesn’t matter if you do it while sitting in bed or right after dinner, just make time to plan. Personally, I like to divide my time up hour by hour for the coming day. If I know a project is going to take me roughly two hours to accomplish, I’ll block out hours 8am to 10am to ensure I have plenty of time to complete that project.
I plan my day hour by hour so I know exactly what needs to get accomplished and when I’m going to work on it. This helps me feel confident and excited for the day ahead and releases me from thinking about tomorrow’s to-do list. You can plan the day ahead whichever way makes you feel comfortable whether it’s simply jotting down a to-do list, mapping out your day, or whatever!
To-Do or Not To-Do
You know when you’re working on a task and you randomly remember that obscure thing you need to take care of at some point in the day? We all have those moments. Sometimes, focusing on remembering to get that task off can really distract you from the work you need to get done now. Having your planner right at your desk allows you to have a constant to-do list where you can throw anything you need to on it as soon as it comes to your mind!
One way I really prioritize things in my to-do list is by writing super high priority items in red. This helps me remember that these items need to be crossed off before the other ones on the list. You can get fancy with it and further color-code it, but honestly who has time for that?
Lists, Lists, and More Lists
Hi! I’m Holly, and I absolutely love lists. I know there are a lot of other people out there like me, and it’s important for us to have a designated spot for our hundreds of lists. A planner with plenty of blank paper is highly necessary for me and my lists.
I have to have a planner that’s a one-stop-shop for my daily tasks, to-do lists, and plenty of other types of lists. Having my planner on hand all the time makes it easy for me to add grocery items to my grocery list, items to pack to my packing list, and more. Carrying multiple notebooks is such a hassle, so a well-rounded planner is essential for me.
Being able to jot-down quick lists or add items to existing lists quickly and easily is a great way to further improve your productivity and keep you focused on the task at hand. If you have a project that requires multiple steps, I enjoy writing down each step on a list and then tackling those smaller items one-by-one. It helps me feel more accomplished throughout the day and prevents me from procrastinating on a big project that gives me that “I don’t even know where to start” feeling.

Overall, planners are one of my favorite ways to stay organized, focuses, and productive throughout the day. It’s a great place to store everything you need throughout the day, write down ideas, plan tasks, take notes, and more.
An all-in-one planner is essential to tackling the day and getting sh*t done! It can improve your sleep by helping you prepare for the day ahead as well as help you stay productive and on task when working on an important project. It can even encourage you to start a big project when you’re feeling overwhelmed. I think everyone should have a planner they love and cherish to be their little sidekick throughout the day!
